Own your data.

HashCash is a small team building software that gives people, and the organizations they work in, real control over the data they create.

Every search, message and question you ask leaves a record. More and more, those records are also what AI systems learn from and remember. We believe the person a record comes from should decide where it lives, who can read it and how long it lasts. Today that choice is usually made for them, somewhere they can't see.

A privacy policy doesn't change that. Control has to be built into the software: where your traffic travels, where your memories are stored, and how anyone can check what a system kept. We're taking it on in three places.

The first is the network. Most of what you do online passes through companies you never chose. VALT, our first product, connects you through exits run by independent operators, not one company. Our server only hands out the connection details and never carries your traffic.

The second is memory. Right now you are the place where every piece of your digital life meets, and that's a lot to carry. Presence, the assistant we're building, remembers what matters to you, keeps that memory on your device and takes some of that weight. We want you to close your laptop feeling done for the day.

The third is proof. When the company that builds an AI memory also writes the test, nobody knows how good it is. We're building one too, so Memception, our test, can't rest on anyone's judgment, ours included. It plays out years of a person's or a company's life, with facts that change along the way, and checks every answer against one known to be right. There's no AI judge. It's also built to check the lines a memory shouldn't cross, like one client's details showing up in another client's answer, or finance records reaching a new hire.

We're early. If you care about who holds your data as much as we do, we'd like to hear from you.
